Moms of Madison
Community Support Program

The Moms of Madison Community Support Program is designed to provide timely, meaningful financial assistance to Madison families experiencing sudden and unforeseen hardship.

Our Mission

To mobilize the strength and generosity of the Moms of Madison community to support families who have been otherwise stable but are navigating a temporary crisis—such as serious illness, disability, or other life-altering events—that has significantly impacted their financial well-being.

Program Intentions

This program is intentionally focused on short-term, targeted support that helps families stabilize and regain their footing. Rather than providing ongoing assistance, our goal is to serve as a bridge during difficult moments, alleviating immediate financial pressure so families can move forward with greater security and dignity.

MYFS Partnership

Through a partnership with Madison Youth & Family Services, all recipients are thoughtfully identified and vetted, ensuring that support reaches those who need it most. Funds are distributed responsibly and directly toward essential expenses such as housing, utilities, and other critical needs.

Guiding Principles

Above all, this program is grounded in respect, discretion, and community care. Whether support is provided privately or with the broader community’s awareness, our priority is to ensure that every family feels supported, protected, and valued.

Who is this program intended for?

We support Madison families with at least one child in the home who are experiencing a sudden, unexpected financial hardship.

This program is intended for families who:

  • Have been previously stable

  • Are now facing a temporary crisis (medical, financial, or personal)

  • May be slightly above income thresholds and not eligible for traditional assistance programs

  • Are willing to accept support and participate in the application process

Examples:

  • Serious illness or medical diagnosis

  • Sudden disability or mental health crisis

  • Job loss or unexpected financial disruption

  • Divorce, separation, or domestic instability

What are some examples of unforeseen circumstances?

What types of need do we support?

We fund essential, time-sensitive expenses that help stabilize a family during a difficult period. Priority categories include:

  • Housing: rent or mortgage payments

  • Utilities: heat, electricity, fuel

  • Basic living needs: groceries, essential household expenses

  • Crisis-related expenses: medical-related costs tied to the hardship

Are there funding limits per family?

This program provides short-term, one-time financial support designed to act as a bridge during a crisis.

  • Support is typically limited to essential expenses over a defined period
(example: up to 3 months of mortgage or utility payments)

  • Each family receives a one-time grant per application cycle

  • Funding amounts will vary based on:

    • The nature of the need

    • Funds available from recent fundraising efforts

The goal is to provide meaningful but finite support that helps families regain stability — not ongoing assistance.

How do people get referred to and/or find out about this program?

Through a referral directly from Madison Youth & Family Services:

  • Madison Youth & Family Services identifies families experiencing hardship

  • MYFS encourages those families to apply through Moms of Madison

  • MYFS may provide context or insight to support the application

Self-Application:

  • Families can apply directly through the Moms of Madison website

How are funds distributed to the recipient family in need?

Funds are distributed through a structured, accountable process:

  1. Moms of Madison raises funds through events or donations

  2. Funds are allocated to a specific family or defined need

  3. Moms of Madison issues a payment to Madison Youth & Family Services

  4. MYFS pays vendors directly (e.g. mortgage company, utility provider) on behalf of the family

Important:

  • Funds are not given directly to families

  • All payments are tied to documented, verified expenses

  • This ensures transparency, accountability, and proper use of funds
